The Rosefield Uniting Netball Club, previously basketball club, began in the mid 1950’s.
Originally the players trained at Epworth Church, Parkside, then at various churches in the area, until lights were installed at Rosefield Uniting Church, Highgate in 1987 which enabled night training.
Junior home games were played at Highgate School as boys’ basketball used the Rosefield Uniting Church courts. Eventually basketball moved to indoor venues so all home netball games could be played at the church. Teams travelled great distances all over Adelaide for away games, often the whole team in one car, and there were fewer spectators at games then than now.
The original uniform was a green box pleated tunic with a green and white checked stripe around the bottom, white shirt and green girdle.
A brown leather ball was used and faithfully cleaned with shoe polish and pumped up each week by the captain who held the position all season.
In the early years, the number of players grew to over 100. However, numbers gradually declined and in the early 2000s there were only 3 teams. In 2010, players from the (now closed) Mitcham Uniting Netball Club joined Rosefield Uniting Netball Club, rapidly growing our numbers and connection with the local community.
